Aug. 27th, 2008 09:05 pmSo in the spirit in keeping my holidayesqe mood going and making myself feel that bit more attractive I took the last of my dollars, changed them back to euros and went out and bought myself pretty underthings. Ooh la la.
While I've never been hugely fussed about my outer wear (jeans and a top is my usual non work uniform) I've always been quite particular about my underwear. All kinds, from bras to garter belts to corsets to girdles are of some fascination to me. My knickers and bra must match. Not nessecerily a matching set but if I am wearing a black bra then I will wear black knickers. I will always wear well fitting underthings, nothing too baggy or too tight. I think most people will agree wearing too tight knickers is a rather unique misery that we all inflict on ourselves at some point. My friends always seem amazed by this side of me, this person who inventories her bras every month to check for loose stitches or possible rips exposing the underwire and the potential to stab me. I have also dragged all my friends along for professional bra fittings. The smug feeling I get when the sales lady points out a friend is actually a 34C instead of the 32B is worth it.
I always make sure to try on a bra in a shop before buying. A size 38DD in one shop is not nessecerily going to fit me in another shop. Once I find the perfect bra I tend to become loyal to the shops that stock them. I usually overlook price when buying which I'll admit does not help financial matters. However a well fitting bra is worth the money in my opinion. If you are constantly aware your wearing a bra from the too tight waistband to the cup spilleth over problem, well its not the right bra is it.
I am a fan of old school 50's glamour when it was all about the pointy cup and the garter belts and stockings (whoever invented tights should be shot me thinks). They were supportive as well as attractive. Nowadays it seems to be one or the other. I own several pair of those granny pants, you know the ones that stretch from right under your boobs to just above your knee? For me they are essential for wearing a dress however I can't help but lack a certain inner sparkle when wearing them. Lets face it flesh coloured spandex is not a sexy thing. Finding a garter belt in Dublin is not an easy thing. I could go the online route however when buying something so personal, it lies on your skin next to your most sensitive bits afterall, I want to be able to feel the material, to see the stretching potential, to see how secure the stitches are, which is something an online purchase would deprive me of. I will admit here that I am quite looking forward to the dita von teese underwear line wonderbra are bringing out, old style glamour with modern material? Huzzah!
